Frances Henry's wife was chief mourner, accompanied by her husband Henry and siblings. Anne and Mary, Francis half-siblings from her father' Charles Brandon's first marriage.pushed themselves to the head of the funeral cortege just before the coffin was lowered into the crypt of the Abbey of St Edmundsbury, much to the consternation of their half-siblings

  • 20TH FEBRUARY The coronation of King Edward VI. Henry was created lord high constable of England for three days (17 to 20 Feb.) to superintend the young king's coronation.

  • Henry returned home to Bradgate after out of favor with the leader of King Edward VI government, Edward Seymour.

  • 5TH SEPTEMBER Henry's daughter The Lady Jane Grey returned home after the death of Catherine Parr However Thomas Seymour, on the other hand, pressed the Henry with demands that he held Jane's wardshipand she should be returned to his household. Jane returned to Seymour's household and moved into Catherine Parrs apartments.

  • OCTOBER When John Dudley, Earl of Warwick, overthrew the Protectorship (Edward Seymour) and secured power by appointing loyal friends to the Privy Council. Grey joined the Council as a part of this group.

  • AUGUST Henry's daughter Katherine Grey was now betrothed to Lord Herbert

  • 25TH MAY Henry's daughter Lady Jane Grey had been married the Duke of Northumberland's son, Lord Guildford Dudley at Durham House. Henry's other daughter Lady Katherine was married to Henry, Lord Herbert The Lady Katharine's marriage was annulled the following year. Mary Grey, Henry's youngest daughter got betrothed to her distant cousin Arthur Grey, 14th Baron Grey de Wilton

  • 22ND AUGUST John Dudley, the Duke of Northumberland is executed for high treason at Tower Hill.
  • 13TH NOVEMBER The trial of Henry's daughter the Lady Jane Grey at Guildhall in the City of London. Jane was charged with high treason, as were her husband, two of his brothers, and the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Cranmer . The commission was chaired by Sir Thomas White, Lord Mayor of London, and Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk.

  • 25TH JANUARY The Thomas Wyatt Rebellion. This was in response to Queen Mary 's Catholic choice in Spanish Marriage with Philip of Spain. Henry had joined the rebellion, b. Henry had proved more determined, but only managed to raise a force of 140 rebels, many of whom were his own men. He was refused entry to Coventry, and gave himself up when captured by Francis Hastings, 2nd Earl of Huntingdon. The revolt had failed by February. This sealed the fate of The Lady Jane Grey.

  • 23RD FEBRUARY Henry Grey is executed on Tower Hill for treason along with his younger brother Lord Thomas Grey

  • Henry Grey, was the 1st Duke of Suffolk and 3rd Marquess of Dorset who was well known for his passion for his protestant faith.
 
  • Henry was the grandson of the late Queen consort Elizabeth Woodville, through her son Thomas Grey. Thomas was a son through her first marriage prior to her marriage to King Edward IV of England.
 
  • After Henry's father's death, a number of quarrels happened between Henry and his mother, were Henry was forced to pay a fine of £4000 for breach of contract after he had renounced his betrothal to Katherine Fitzalan, daughter of the Earl of Arundel.As a result, his widowed mother tried to restrict his allowance throughout his minority which caused much consternation from her peers, who labelled her actions "unmotherly", and inappropriate behaviour towards a nobleman closely related to the King

  • The moment Francis Brandon heard of her husband's Henry's arrest, she rode over to Queen Mary in the middle of the night to plead for her family. Despite all odds, not only did the Duchess manage to be received by the Queen, but also could secure him a pardon by placing all the blame on Northumberland. Francis spoke to the Queen on prior event were While in his Northumberland household, Lady Jane had fallen sick of food poisoning and had suspected Northumberland's family.The Duchess now used her daughter's suspicions and her husband's sickness to accuse Northumberland of having tried to kill her family.Therefore, Mary was willing to pardon the Duke of Suffolk
     
  • On the day of his execution, Henry was escorted to Tower Hill at 9am on 23rd February, according to John Foxe’s account, as he climbed the scaffold Mary I’s Chaplain, Hugh Weston, attempted to follow him. Henry then pushed him back down the stairs and a scuffle ensued, but Weston told Henry that it was the Queen’s orders that he speak to the crowd. Weston went ahead and preached a sermon attacking Suffolk’s Protestant beliefs. Henry then addressed the crowd .  He asked for forgiveness and knelt down, holding up his hands and looking up to heaven, saying the psalm, Miserere mei Deus. He ended by saying “In manes tuus, Domine, commendo spiritum meum” (Into thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit) and then stood up, took off his cap and scarf, and gave them to the executioner.
