  • 1ST MARCH King Henry VIII sold Catherine Willoughby de Eresby ward ship to Charles .On acquiring Catherine's wardship, Charles immediately intervened in the family quarrel, that was happening over lands and inheritance with a letter to Cardinal Thomas Wolsey,and his intervention appears to have cowed Sir Christopher Willoughby, who wrote to Thomas Wolsey that the Cardinal's anger was 'worse to him than death'

  • Pope Clement VII issued a Papal Bull, which confirmed that Charles Brandon's divorce from Margaret Neville was valid, thus establishing the legitimacy of Mary and Anne Brandon. He also bull from Pope Clement VII that assured the legitimacy of his marriage with Mary Tudor.

  • Charles Brandon, was the 1st Duke of Suffolk, and the 1st Viscount Lisle
 
  • Charles was brought up at the court of Henry VII and became a great favourite of King Henry VIII of England. He was charming and charismatic,
 
  • Charles  Prior to his marriage to Anne Browne had married Margaret Neville; however, he had been previously been betrothed to Anne and deserted her while she was pregnant with Mary's sister, Anne. After his marriage to Margaret was declared null and void due to his pre-contract with Anne Browne, he married then Anne Browne.
     
 
  • An affection between Charles and the dowager queen Mary had subsisted before her marriage. Even King Francis I roundly charged him with an intention to marry her. When Charles married Mary Tudor, this was technically treason.The privy council urged that Charles should be imprisoned and executed. He was only saved from King Henry's anger by Thomas Wolsey and also from the affection that the King had for both his sister and for him. Hence, the couple got off easily and were charged only with a heavy fine of £24,000 to be paid to the King in yearly instalments of £1000, as well as the whole of Mary's dowry from King Louis XII of £200,000, together with her plate and jewels. After his marriage to Mary, Charles lived for some years in retirement before returning to court
 
 
  • Charles was one of the commissioners appointed by Henry to dismiss Catherine’s household, a task which he found distasteful.
 
  • Catherine Willoughby his fourth wife, had been betrothed to his eldest surviving son, Henry, Earl of Lincoln, but the boy was too young to marry. Not desiring to risk losing Catherine's lands, Charles married her himself in the end
