  • AUGUST: Catherine Parr is born in Blackfriars, London, England. the eldest daughter of Maud Green, and Sir Thomas Parr.

  • 14TH AUGUST birth of Catherine ‘s brother William Parr

  • 15TH JUNE The birth Of Anne Parr, Catherine’s sister

  • 11TH NOVEMBER Catherine’s: father Thomas died in London of the plague. In his will, he left £800 to be divided between his two daughters as marriage portions

  • Catherine’s brother William joins the household of Henry Fitzroy, the illegitimate son of Henry VIII of England.

  • 9TH FEBRUARY Catherine’s brother William married Anne Bourchier. Anne Bourchier was the second cousin to Henry VIII.

  • LATE OCTOBER 1536 TO APRIL 1537 Catherine lived alone in fear with her step-children, struggling to survive, during the rebellions.

  • JANUARY During the uprising of the north, Catherine and her step-children were held hostage at Snape castle in Yorkshire.

  • FEBRUARY Anne Parr, Catherine’s sister, married William Herbert.

  • 16TH FEBRUARY Catherine established herself as part of Marys Tudor’s household, and it was there that Catherine caught the attention of the king.
  • 2ND MARCH Catherine’s husband John Neville died.
  • 17TH APRIL Catherine’s brother William had his marriage annulled to Anne Bourchier.
  • 12TH JULY Catherine married Henry VIII of England at Hampton court palace. Anne Parr, Catherine sister was present, during the ceremony, and Margaret Douglas, Margaret was a cousin of Henry VIII. Eighteen people were in attendance at the wedding.

  • FEBRUARY Bishop of Winchester and Lord Wriothesley attempt to turn the king against Catherine., and a arrest warrant was drawn up for Catherine, rumours abounded across Europe that the king was attracted to her close friend, the Duchess of Suffolk.(Catherine Brandon) however, she saw the warrant and managed to reconcile with the king after vowing that she had only argued about religion with him to take his mind off the suffering, caused by his ulcerous leg
  • 24TH MAY Stephen Gardiner ordered the arrest of Anne Askew and Sir Anthony Kingston, the Constable of the Tower of London, was ordered to torture Askew in an attempt to force her to name Catherine and other leading Protestants
  • DECEMBER: Doctor. George Owen, the royal physician told the Privy council that Henry VIII was dying

  • 28TH JANUARY Henry VIII England died. Now Edward VI is king of England. Edward Seymour is Lord Protector to the young King.
  • 31ST JANUARY Catherine retired to old manor, Chelsea, the princess Elizabeth lived there with her, and Elizabeth cousin, the Lady Jane Grey lived there with them, under wardship of Thomas Seymour
  • 20TH FEBRUARY The coronation of Edward VI of England. Edward was Walking beneath a canopy of crimson silk and cloth of gold topped by silver bells, the boy-king wore a crimson satin robe trimmed with gold silk lace costing £118 16s. 8d. and a pair of ‘Sabatons’ of cloth of gold

  • Catherine invited Lady Elizabeth and her cousin, Lady Jane Grey, to stay at Sudley Castle Catherine to provide education for both girls.
  • MARCH Catherine is pregnant, and during this time, Thomas Seymour began to take an interest in Lady Elizabeth. (future Elizabeth I of England)
  • MAY Lady Elizabeth Fitzgerald went to live in Chelsea manor with Catherine following sir Anthony’s, Browne ‘her husband's death. while Elizabeth resides there for short time, her and Princess Elizabeth became friends.
  • 30TH AUGUST Catherine gives birth to her daughter Mary Seymour
  • 5TH SEPTEMBER: Catherine died after the birth of her daughter Mary, from what is thought to be childbed fever. at Sudeley Castle, Gloucestershire, England
 
Catherine was buried at St Mary’s Chapel, Sudeley Castle. Lady Jane acted as chief mourner at Catherine’s funeral

EXTRA FACTS ON CATHERINE PARR

  • Catherine Parr was the sixth wife and Queen consort of Henry VIII of England for three and half years.

 

  • Sir Thomas Parr, Catherine’s father was a descendant of Edward III of England, through his mother’s line.

 

  • Catherine mother’s grandparents were first cousins to late queen consort Elizabeth Woodville.

 

  • Catherine married four times in total. First to Sir Edward Burgh Second to John Neville, 3rd Baron Latimer.  Third to Henry VIII of England Then lastly to Thomas Seymour.

 

  • Catherine’s mother Maud Green had followed Thomas More’s example and educated her daughters Anne and Catherine at home. All of her children could all read from a young age. Catherine was taught French, Latin, and Italian and a wide range of social skills that included "a knowledge of etiquette and good manners, an easy conversational style, the ability to sing and play music

 

  • Catherine’s sister Anne Parr, had been a lady- in -waiting to all six of Henry VIII of England’s Queen consorts.

 

  • Catherine enjoyed a close relationship with all of Henry's VIII three children. She was personally involved in the education of Elizabeth and Edward.

  • Anne Seymour, the wife of the Lord Protector of Edward VI of England had been the lady in waiting to Catherine when she was queen. However, when she married Thomas Seymour, Anne’s brother in law, The Duchess considered that Catherine Parr forfeited her rights of precedence, she refused to bear Catherine's train, and even physically tried to push her out of her place at the head of their entrances and exits at court. The Duchess was quoted as having said of Catherine, "If master admiral (Thomas Seymour) teach his wife no better manners, I am she that will". Catherine, in her turn, privately referred to her sister-in-law as "that Hell"

 

  • Thomas Seymour had reputedly plotted to marry Elizabeth before marrying Catherine, and it was reported later that Catherine discovered the two in an embrace. On a few occasions before the situation risked getting completely out of hand, according to the deposition of Kat Ashley, Catherine appears not only to have acquiesced in episodes of horseplay but to have assisted her husband. princess Elizabeth was sent away from Catherine’s home to live in the household of Anthony Denny. the Lady Jane Grey lived there still, until Catherine’s death. The Lady Jane Grey was a ward of Thomas Seymour.
