  • 26TH JUNE King Edward V  is now deposed and his uncle Richard III declares himself the rightful King.
  • Buckingham's Rebellion The plot revolved around Henry Stafford, 2nd Duke of Buckingham, (Edward's father)who had become disaffected from Richard, and had backing from the exiled Henry Tudor (The future King Henry VII) and his mother Margaret Beaufort.
  • During the rebellion Edward was said to have been hidden in various houses in Herefordshire , and possibly for the remainder of Richard III reign.

  • Anne Edward's sister is rumoured to be King Henry VIII mistress
  • Anne, Edwrad's sister was the subject of a sex scandal. Edward had heard rumours that Anne was having an affair with Sir William Compton. On one occasion, Edward had found Compton in Anne's room. Compton was forced to take the sacrament to prove that he had not committed adultery. Hastings sent Anne to live in a convent 60 miles away from the royal court.

  • 8TH JANUARY Edward's daughter Elizabeth Stafford married Thomas Howard Earl of Surrey (3rd Duke Norfolk) Elizabeth brought Howard a dowry of 2000 marks, and was promised a jointures of 500 marks a year.
  • JUNE-OCTOBER Edward served as a captain during Henry VIII invasion of France, commanding 500 men in the 'middle ward'

  • Edward was appointed to commissions of the peace and charged, together with other marcher lords, with responsibility for keeping order in south Wales

  • 16TH FEBRUARY Edward's son Henry Stafford, married Ursula Pole, the daughter of Margaret Pole.Ursula's dowry was 3,000 marks, which would be increased by 1,000 marks "if the Countess (of Salisbury) get back certain lands from the King. Countess settled lands in Somerset and Devon worth 700 marks on the couple and their children. In return, the Edward was required to set aside lands worth £500 as Ursula's jointures..Edward also paid for the wedding expenses, apart from Ursula's wedding clothes which were provided by her mother. Henry and Ursula lived in Edward's household..

  • Ralph Neville, 4th Earl of Westmorland married Edward's daughter Catherine. Ralph was originally betrothed to Elizabeth, however she married Thomas Howard.
  • JUNE Edward and his wife, Eleanor,accompanied by his son Henry and his wife Ursula Pole, attended the Field of the Cloth of Gold
  • Edward became suspected of potentially treasonous actions and Henry VIII authorised an investigation. The King personally examined witnesses against him, gathering enough evidence for a trial.

  • APRIL Edward is summoned to court and arrested then placed in the Tower of London.
  • MAY Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk presided as Lord High Steward over Edward's trial .According to Head, 'he pronounced the sentence of death with tears streaming down his face'.
