  • After the death of king Francis II, the husband of Mary Queen Scots. Henry was sent into France by his mother, who hoped that he would become king of England on Elizabeth ’s death, and who already entertained the idea of his marriage with Mary Queen of Scots, the widow of Francis , as a means to this end. nothing came out of their meeting.

  • 7TH DECEMBER: It was at Craigmillar castle, that it was said a pact was made to with or without Mary Queen Scots  knowledge, to dispose of her husband Henry Stuart, lord Darnley. This pact known as the "Craigmillar Bond

  • 9TH FEBRUARY: Mary Queen, of Scots attended Bastian’s wedding dance;
  • 10TH FEBRUARY: Henry is murdered at Kirk O' Field, Edinburgh, Scotland early in the morning of 10th February, the house was destroyed by a gunpowder explosion while Mary  was at Holyrood attending the wedding celebration of Bastian Pagez.

EXTRA FACTS ON HENRY STUART, LORD DARNLEY

  • Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley, was king consort to Mary Queen of Scots for around nineteen months
 
  • Henry and Mary Queen of Scots were first Cousin, sharing the same grandmother Margaret Tudor Queen of Scots. Margaret Douglas, Henry’s Mother was the half-sister to James V of Scotland, Mary Queen of Scots father.
 
  • Henry and Mary Queen of Scots son James VI would bring the union of the Scottish and English crowns, and make him James 1st of England, and king of Great Britain.
 
  • When Henry VIII had his two daughters Margaret and Elizabeth, declared bastards, this meant Margaret Douglas was then placed in the line of succession. Any potential marriages or relationships she entered into would then be seen if not supported by the crown, as treasonable offence. However, as part of his will in 1547, Henry discounted his sister Margaret Tudor line, from the Act of Succession. The line did included his other sister Mary Tudor’s line, which included the Lady Jane Grey the nine day queen.
 
  • Henry’s father, the 4th Earl of Lennox, had been declared guilty of treason in Scotland for his role in the war of the Rough Wooing, siding with the English as an opponent of Mary of Guise and Regent Arran. Lennox lost all his lands, and was exiled form Scotland until 1564
 
  • Henry ‘s father Matthew Stewart, 4th Earl of Lennox He was James V's second cousin once removed, and was in the line of succession if Mary Queen Scots should have died without an heir.
 
  • Henry was very unpopular in Scotland, he came over as weak, lacked character, and selfish as well as immature. Never the less Mary Queen of Scotschose Henry as her second husband, maybe on his Status than personality, or he had enough charm in early days for Mary to believe the marriage could be successful.
 
  • David Rizzio, the private secretary to Mary Queen of Scots, was murder by Henry And his friends, David was accused of being a lover of the Queen Mary,
 
  • It is believed that Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley was murdered by conspirators almost certainly led by James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell. Mary Queen of Scots, third husband.
