  •  13TH JULY: Eleanor was was sailing down the Thames when her barge was attacked by citizens of London, Eleanor, hated the Londoners, and they hated her in return. Eleanor she was pelted with stones, loose pieces of paving, dried mud, rotten eggs and vegetables, however rescued by Thomas Fitz Thomas, the mayor of London, who took her to his home for safety
  • Eleanor’s uncle Peter II, count of savoy built the savoy palace, which is now present day the savoy hotel

  • Eleanor looked after her grandson Henry as he lay dying at Guildford, Eleanor had raised him from the age of two years. When her grandson Henry died in her care in 1274, Eleanor went into mourning and gave orders for his heart to be buried at the priory at Guildford which she founded in his memory

  • Eleanor was from the house of House Barcelona. The House of Barcelona was a medieval dynasty that ruled the County of Barcelona since 878AD.
 
  • Eleanor was the mother of A King, Edward 1st England. The mother of a Queen consort Margaret Queen of Scotland. The sister of Marguerite, Queen of France, Sanchia, Queen of Germany and Beatrice, Queen of Sicily.
 
  • Eleanor, was known for her great beauty, dark-haired brunette with fine eyes

  • Eleanor was very much resented by the public, mainly because she brought a large number of her relatives in to England, with her, these were known as "the Savoyards", and on top of everything, they were given influential positions in the government At least 170 Savoyards arrived in England after 1236, coming from Savoy, Burgundy and Flanders.
 
  • Eleanor raised troops for Henry in 1264 following his defeat at Lewes, stood side by side with him throughout the struggles he faced during his reign.
 
  • Eleanor was close to her son’s Edward’s daughter, Eleanor, while Edward and his wife were on the eighth Crusade, their daughter Eleanor spent a great deal of time with her. When Edward had become King, she remained in England as queen dowager, and raised several of her grandchildren
