Ambrose Dudley was imprisoned in the Tower of London with his father and his four brothers.

This was an Act of the Parliament of England which confirmed the attainders for High Treason against John Dudley Duke of Northumberland, Thomas Cranmer the Archbishop of Canterbury, William Marquess of Northampton, John Earl of Warwick, Sir Ambrose Dudley, Sir Andrew Dudley, Sir John Gates, and Sir Thomas Palmer. Ambrose, and his brothers, John, Robert and Henry were held in the room of the Beauchamp Tower of the Tower of London.
22ND AUGUST Ambrose father,John Dudley, 1st Duke of Northumberland was executed under Mary 1st of England for Convicted of high treason, for being a leader in placing The Lady Jane Grey on the English throne

Ambrose commanded the army Queen Elizabeth sent to Le Havre to garrison the town and assist the Huguenots in the First French War of Religion. This campaign ended in failure when the French belligerents agreed on a peace and the English surrendered because of the plague. Ambrose who had acted honourably throughout, returned with a severe leg wound

11TH NOVEMBER Ambrose married for a third time to Anne Russell, Robert Dudley, Ambrose’s brother , had arranged the match. It was an extraordinary court event. In between tournaments and banquets, the bride was given away by the Earl of Leicester in the presence of the Queen; she later became one of Elizabeth's closest friends

NOVEMBER Ambrose was involved managing The Rising of the North. This an unsuccessful attempt by Catholic nobles from Northern England to depose Queen Elizabeth'I of England and replace her with Mary, Queen of Scots. This was Ambrose last Military campaign.

JANUARY Robert Dudley entertained his brother Ambrose as well as "Sister Mary" and "Sister Kate" at Kenilworth. Kenilworth was the home of Robert Dudley.
Ambrose resided at North Hall, his house in Northaw, Hertfordshire. He would travel very little as he was often unable to move about, having "no use of his legs

Ambrose Dudley was the 3rd Earl of Warwick and Baron Lisle.

Ambrose lived under five Tudor monarchs, Henry VII, Edward VI, the Lady Jane Grey, Mary 1st and Elizabeth 1st of England.

He was the eldest son out of thirteen children. Out of the thirteen four Dudley siblings who survived into Elizabeth's reign, Mary, Ambrose, Robert, and their much younger sister Katherine.

Ambrose was the son of the executed John Dudley, who had been Lord President of the Privy council of King Edward IV of England. He was also a brother to Guildford Dudley, Guildford was the husband of the Nine Day Queen the lady Jane Grey. He was also brother to Robert Dudley, the known favourite of Queen Elizabeth 1st of England.

Through Ambrose grandmother he was the descended from the famous 15th century earls, John Talbot, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury and Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick

Jane Dudley, Ambrose mother, served as a lady-in-waiting to Anne Boleyn, and later to Anne of Cleves.

Ambrose Dudley and his brothers were trained by, among others, the mathematician John Dee and the rhetorician Thomas Wilson. They were all brought up under the Protestant religion and had what is believed to be a happy family life.

After their Father John Dudley’s execution, and the execution of his Brother Guildford and his release from the Tower, Ambrose was only permitted in the court of Mary 1st of England, when her husband Philip II of Spain was at court

Ambrose Dudley became known to posterity as the “Good Earl of Warwick”. Ambrose was a major patron of the Elizabethan Puritan movement and supported non-conforming preachers in their struggle with the Church authorities

Ambrose and his brother Robert Dudley were very close, in matters of business and personally, Ambrose and Robert Dudley adopted the bear and ragged staﬀ, the heraldic device of the medieval Earls of Warwick Robert is buried in the same church as his brother Ambrose, in Collegiate Church of St Mary, Warwick.

Despite three marriages, Ambrose Dudley remained childless after the death of an infant daughter in 1552
